Here
you find some of popular musical instruments from the Middle East. Some
of them can be used for belly dancing performances, some are good for
traditional Arabic music, or just for fun or decoration.
Zills, dumbeks (called also durbakke, darbukkah, etc. depending on region,
most famous are from Alexandria), daffs (kind of a folk tambourine),
etc.
Soon we will add more choices to this section.

Introduction
to Middle Eastern Rhythms with Gary Cohen - CD
Teach
yourself to play Middle Eastern drum with Gary Cohen's newly created
instructional CD. Gary is known performing musician and teacher. Step
by step explanations of basic sounds and rhytms. Also playing along
"groove", with bass doumbek and basics of improvisation. Great for
learning derbakke (doumbek, darbuka), and also helpful for dancers.

Belly
Dance Zills
Quite
unlike the popular ones cut from a brass sheet imported from Egypt or
the USA. Adjustable rubber band put through a single, central hole for
longer sound. Set of four pieces. Professional dancers tested them in
our shop, and said that they "have lots of juice". Well, don't
take our word for it. Play MP3
sound sample of their sound! |
Daff
Drum
Syrian
made, with a skin membrane, ornamented with traditional mosaics tambourine.
It has a really nice folk sound, and can be used for decoration, playing,
or as an attractive stage element.
Great for performances or any other use - specially for this very low
